Year 5

Welcome to Year 5!

I, Miss Childs, as the teacher of Year 5, would like to welcome you to our class page. I work alongside, Miss Wilson and Miss Williams to teach and support the class. We are all looking forward to working closely with everyone! Here’s some useful information:

Topics

At Ysgol Penrhyn we use the Cornerstones Curriculum This is a coherent, skills and knowledge-based primary curriculum with a creative edge. It’s rooted in a proven pedagogy based on how children learn best. At its heart is the principle that every child deserves a rich, fun, engaging and broad learning experience.

At Ysgol Penrhyn learning is child-led, meaning the children have a say it what and how they learn.

PE

PE will be on Friday mornings with Mrs Hughes. A list of the required PE KIT can be found here. Please ensure children wear their PE kit to school.

Swimming

Year 5 will have the opportunity to have swimming lessons during the Spring Term from January to April. This will be on a Tuesday morning with the bus leaving at 9.00am.

Snack & Water Bottles

Healthy snack, such as fruit and milk, should be brought into school from home. Children can bring in water bottles . They will have constant access to these throughout the day.

Reading

Please read and enjoy sharing books with your child. It is important that they are reading regularly at home and also discussing their reading. This should be recorded in their organiser by an adult at least three times a week. We check and sign their diaries on a Friday.

Active Learn

Online numeracy activities may be set to support our maths focus.  To log on click here. Login details can be found in your child’s organiser.

IDL

The IDL Literacy Intervention is a speaking-computer based multi-sensory system which supports learners with dyslexia and other learning difficulties to increase their reading and spelling ages. The programme was specifically designed for those with dyslexia and is used as an intervention but as a school we use it effectively as a school wide literacy solution. To log on click here. Login details can be found in your child’s organiser.  Three sessions of IDL should be completed a week, this should be recorded in your child’s organiser. They will be given ample opportunity to complete this in class.

If you want to know more about IDL or how to log in, please click here.

Communication

If you have any questions we are always available to speak to you at the end of the school day. We also use SeeSaw to show off childrens work and keep you updated. You can use the QR code that is in your child’s organiser to access this.

Thank you for your continued support!

Kind Regards,

Miss Childs, Miss Wilson & Miss Williams
